The Feeling Of Healing: How Deep Tissue Massage Can Benefit You

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Unlike other types of massage, such as Swedish massage, deep tissue massage uses slower, more forceful strokes to target specific areas of tension and pain.

Here are some of the benefits of deep tissue massage:

  1. Relieves chronic pain: Deep tissue massage can be very effective in relieving chronic pain caused by conditions such as fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and sciatica. The slow, deep strokes of deep tissue massage help to release tension and tightness in the muscles, which can reduce pain and discomfort.

  2. Improves flexibility and range of motion: By working on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, deep tissue massage can help to increase flexibility and range of motion. This can be especially beneficial for athletes and people who engage in physical activity on a regular basis.  Most importantly, it can help decrease risk of injury by restoring function to that area.

  3. Reduces stress and anxiety: Deep tissue massage can help to reduce stress and anxiety by promoting relaxation and releasing tension in the muscles. This can also lead to improved sleep and a greater sense of well-being.

  4. Helps with injury recovery: Deep tissue massage can be very helpful in recovering from injuries such as whiplash, sprains, and strains. By targeting the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, deep tissue massage can help to speed up the healing process and reduce pain and inflammation.

Most people can be scared of deep tissue because it can either be uncomfortable or even painful at times. At Honest Bodywork, we apply the proper technique to prep your body with deep work by using myofascial techniques to warm up your connective tissue, followed by getting into the layers of your muscle tissue by starting with lighter strokes and then progressively deeper strokes. Almost the same way a person would warm before lifting at the gym!

If you’re worried about the process being painful, our team of therapists work with our client’s pain tolerance.  We will instruct you to communicate throughout your session if the pain is out of your comfort zone.  In addition, if you can handle more pressure you can communicate that as well!
